Lawyer of the Day<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

The Barnstable County Bar Association offers multiple Lawyer of the Day programs<\/h2><\/div>

Our original program with the Barnstable County Probate and Family Court,<\/a> Nantucket Probate and Family Court,<\/a>\u00a0and the Dukes County Probate and Family Court<\/a>, plus our newest program with the Southeast Housing Court \u2013 Barnstable Session<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The Probate and Family Court program is limited to handling issues like guardianships, divorce, custody, child support, parentage, and related matters. \u00a0In probate and family law matters, the Lawyer of the Day can assist in handling paperwork and can provide counseling on certain procedures.\u00a0 These attorneys do NOT<\/strong> appear with you for court hearings.\u00a0 At the present time, interactions with the Lawyer of the Day are done by telephone.<\/p>\n

To determine whether you are eligible for the Probate and Family Court Lawyer of the Day program, please contact the Barnstable<\/a>, Nantucket<\/a> or Dukes<\/a> County courts and they will provide you with additional information.\u00a0 If you are eligible, your contact information will be provided to the volunteer attorney who is next scheduled for the Lawyer of the Day program and that attorney will reach out to you by phone.<\/p>\n

The Barnstable County Bar Association has also established a Lawyer of the Day program with the Southeast Housing Court and South Coastal County Legal Services.\u00a0 Volunteer attorneys provide advice and counsel on various landlord-tenant matters.\u00a0 This program is available on Wednesdays at the Barnstable session of the Southeast Housing Court<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Lawyer of the Day DOES NOT<\/strong> assist on matters relating to consumer complaints, unemployment insurance, or Social Security. \u00a0If you have a legal problem in one of these areas, the Lawyer of the Day will not<\/strong> be able to help you.<\/p>\n

In no circumstance does the Lawyer of the Day programs establish attorney representation beyond the brief interaction through the program; however, the attorney does have a duty to maintain confidentiality regarding the matters discussed.<\/p>\n
